About Me

I have been playing music for twenty five years, and playing professionally in the Seattle area for the last 15 years as a teacher, songwriter, recording artist, and instrumentalist.  I received a BFA in music from Columbia College Chicago with a concentration in Jazz Guitar.  I love all styles of music, and the thing I enjoy most about teaching is learning about new music from my students, and watching them achieve a skill they never thought was possible. I teach every level of guitar, songwriting, and music theory, as well as beginner and intermediate ukulele. I except student 8 and up.

My Teaching Style is structured primarily on learning to play by ear and how to play with others.  As each students faces new challenges I introduce more complex ideas that are relevant to what they are learning.  This "learn when necessary" approach keeps lessons fun and students don't get bogged down with homework they are not interested in.

Customized Lessons are an important tool that I use to ensure that each unique student is getting the type of instruction that works best with their goals, interests, and how they learn best.

Choosing the right instructor is one of the most important decisions when starting your education. Learning an instrument is hard and your instructor must be an example of what you someday hope to become, and be able to motivate you to get there. You can hear examples of my playing here (video guitarist/songwriter Warren Dunes), here (audio guitarist/songwriter Warren Dunes), and here (audio vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Electric NoNo)
